What are Artist Trading Cards?

These two above are Digital collages and I made them in Photoshop for private swaps.

The three below are all paper collage.

This group below are a few from a deck swap.

53 artists decided to make a deck of playing card ATC's and each artist was given a card to

produce in any medium they chose.

They then had to make 53 cards all the same! send them to the host and wait.

The host of the swap then had the task of collating together 53 decks and mailing them to all participants.

The examples here are all the result of on-line swaps, I have yet to participate in a real person to person trade, I hope the exhibition here in the UK will go some way to giving me and other ATC enthusiasts the chance to trade in person soon.

On art groups all over the web, people are generating swaps and you don't need to be an artist to make and trade cards, as you can use almost any material to make these cards if you're one of those people who say "well.......I can't even draw a straight line let alone draw!"

No worries!

ATC's come in a wide variety of mediums as I hope to show on this blog, and if you can cut 'n' paste what not try collage? fabric? or photographs?
Online groups often have themed swaps and there are usually many themed swaps going on at any one time.

When a theme is decided on the person hosting the swap will post the details in the group database. This usually contains the "in my hands by" date, this simply means that all participants have to post their cards to the host to arrive in the hosts hands by a certain date.

When the artist has made their cards they sign the backs with their name, the date and title of the card.

Also the name of the swap and the name of swap host goes on the backs too.

That's Art Cards Editions and Originals.

ACEO's are a derivative of ATC's the same size and with the same details on their reverse, but these cards are for sale.

Some artist make them as editions of any given number and for the most part they tend to be painted or hand drawn.

These I painted in the Folk Art Style.
